John Gripman, Partner
John Gripman has more than 20 years of electric utility management and consulting experience. His areas of functional expertise include strategic and business planning, process improvement, project review and approval, economic evaluation, organization design, and cost control. Prior to joining ScottMadden, Mr. Gripman held various positions at Progress Energy, including nuclear group controller and manager of financial planning and analysis. He also has held financial positions with Arthur Andersen and two manufacturing firms. Mr. Gripman received a B.S. in industrial management from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from Duke University. He also is a CPA.

- Coordinated the design and implementation of a business planning and cost management process for a multi-site nuclear generation division
- Facilitated implementation of best practices-or playbook-for a large generation business unit, including organization design, goal structure, generation management practices, market-to-generation linkages, planning processes, activity-based costing, and business systems. Annual benefits from targeted improvements range from $25 to 50 million
- Helped a gas LDC refine its strategic plan
- Designed and implemented a project management process, including an automated economic evaluation tool and project prioritization process
- Helped a startup transmission company design, select software, and implement its financial and accounting systems
- Led the design and implementation of a business planning process and goal structure to support an LDC's new strategic plan
- Assisted gas LDC in developing a business concepts training course for top managers
- Served as project manager to develop a best practice manual for a generation business unit; assisted with implementing identified process improvements and addressing change management issues
- Assisted generation client with a review and significant redesign of its technical training process
- Led organization redesign effort for a nuclear organization
