Daniel J. Kohut, Managing Associate

Dan Kohut joined ScottMadden in 2007 with more than 20 years of experience. He has worked as a consultant for Deloitte Consulting in the strategy and operations group where he provided assistance in the analysis, planning, and execution of strategic growth-related activities. Spanning multiple industries, these included mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and operations improvement and redesign initiatives. Prior to joining Deloitte, Mr. Kohut worked for American Airlines, where he developed pricing and product mix strategies and tactics to maximize revenue in American's jet markets and managed all phases of demand forecasting and revenue management projects. Mr. Kohut also spent four years at General Dynamics as a flight control design engineer and an economic analysis specialist, as well as served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Kohut earned an M.B.A. from Texas Christian University, a Masters of Engineering from the University of Florida, and a B.S. in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas.

  • Assisted in the development of a workplace strategy, tactics, and initiatives to address the changing workforce in the power generation organization of a large investor-owned utility. Managed five client teams to develop an implementation roadmap
  • Assisted executive management on six separate engagements in integration planning and execution for the merger of two investor-owned utilities. These included organization design and analysis, synergy and cost definition and analysis, budget development, and process redesign. Provided analytical assistance to support regulatory data requests from various regulatory agencies
  • Managed the scoping and evaluation of a potential distribution network operations joint venture between two investor-owned utilities, and developed financial models to show pro-forma income statement and balance sheet impacts from the divestiture of the electric distribution assets
  • Led and managed three engagements to support the wind-down/business exit of various non-regulated businesses for a large, investor-owned utility
  • Screened potential merger and/or acquisition candidates for a large, investor-owned utility to assess strategic benefits and risks. Managed three separate electric and gas utility projects to evaluate merger-related labor and non-labor cost reductions through synergy and benchmarking analysis
  • Assisted in the redesign of the project costing, planning, and budgeting processes for an investor-owned utility to support the implementation of PeopleSoft financials
  • Managed two separate international (Germany and Belgium) engagements in the integration planning and execution of two healthcare and life sciences mergers, which included organization design/analysis and redesign/integration of the order-to-cash process. The project involved facilities in more than 50 countries
  • Led the divestiture activities for a large financial services corporation to spin-off and create a publicly traded, stand-alone company
  • Directed the synergy capture team to develop synergy capture guidance, approach, financial models, and cost baseline for the merger of two chemical manufacturing companies
  • Developed a financial model to determine annual incremental budget impacts to all business segments due to the roll-out of SAP modules and processes for a high-tech manufacturing company
