Michael Montgomery, Director

Michael Montgomery has extensive experience in the utilities, energy services, and telecommunications sectors.  Prior to joining ScottMadden, Mr. Montgomery held a variety of executive, management, and operational positions with Central and South West, an electric utility holding company formerly based in Dallas, Texas, and most recently with Grande Communications, a broadband telecommunications company based in San Marcos, Texas.  Mr. Montgomery holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Oklahoma and is a registered professional engineer.

  • Project managed the implementation of field operations, transmission maintenance, system performance and protection, and transmission planning for an independent transmission company
  • Managed the identification, development, and documentation of business processes required to successfully deploy automatic meter reading (AMR) at a large electric utility
  • Performed cost allocation analysis and gave cost-of-service expert testimony for the inclusion of a nuclear plant in rate base
  • Project managed a $120M rate case for a large utility, including filing package and expert testimony development and negotiations with intervening parties
  • Compared and developed cost allocation methodologies used to assign costs and develop pricing for retail and wholesale customers of multiple electric utilities
  • Project managed the acquisition and post-merger integration of a broadband communications company that now accounts for 40 percent of the revenues of a venture-capital funded telecommunications company
  • Performed a strategic and tactical review of telecommunication product pricing and bundling strategies necessary in the face of increased competition. Recommended pricing and bundling changes that resulted in a ten percent retail sales increase
  • Designed and managed the development of web-based software used by commercial customers of a large electric utility to intelligently manage energy consumption and control major energy-consuming equipment
  • Performed the analysis, synthesis, and presentation of strategic growth options for an unregulated subsidiary of an electric utility, resulting in $100M capital funds allocation
  • Established and led the start-up and multi-year operations of an electric utility energy services subsidiary focused on the commercial and small industrial business sectors
  • Designed and implemented human resource functions for a large telecommunications company, including compensation, benefits, training, and support organization
