Stuart M. Pearman, Partner

Stu Pearman has been a management consultant for 14 years and a partner for eight. Mr. Pearman possesses expertise in energy and related services, outsourcing, and general management in a number of industries. Mr. Pearman is also an experienced practitioner, having 19 years of general industry experience in both line and staff management roles. Prior to joining ScottMadden, he worked for NBC, a division of GE. Mr. Pearman earned a B.A. in psychology from Williams College and an M.B.A. from the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, where he graduated at the top of his class and won the Best Industry Analysis Award. Mr. Pearman serves on the adjunct faculty of Kenan-Flagler where he teaches consulting and leadership.

Recent Assignments

 
  • Developed a strategic plan for one of the largest deregulated gencos including environmental, market structure and regulatory policy, generation management excellence, and target customers, channels, and assets
  • Assessed the European carbon markets and pending U.S. carbon legislation to develop a scenario view of the future U.S. carbon regime. Translated this view into an entry strategy for an electricity marketer
  • Developed a strategy to lead the workforce of the future for one of the largest and most respected utilities in the United States. Strategy included both ?hard? initiatives and ?soft? culture and change management actions
  • Developed call center outsourcing strategy, drafted RFP, and managed vendor selection for a top-rated utility
  • Developed continuous business process improvement process for large, growing gas LDC. Scope included customer acquisition to hookup, usage to bank, customer service delivery, organization design, profitable growth, regulatory strategy, supply chain, systems and reports, and planning and budgeting
  • Assessed seven renewable technologies in terms of technology, economics, and market opportunity. Developed strategic plan for market entry along with pro formas
  • Facilitated the implementation of best practices ? or "playbook" ? for a very large generation business unit. The project included organization design, goal structure, operations, maintenance, and outage best practices, market-to-generation linkages, planning processes, activity-based costing, information, business systems, etc.
  • Provided outsourcing advisory services to three national credit reporting agencies after they were required by law to provide free credit reports to the U.S. population. Despite a tight time frame and the unprecedented nature of this undertaking, the program was implemented on time with tremendous success
  • Developed a balanced scorecard for multi-state utility service business. Identified operational drivers and developed a root cause analytics model to link drivers to scorecard results
  • Developed a strategic plan for a mid-size gas delivery company, focusing on growth initiatives and core business improvement. Designed and implemented a goal structure and business planning process to ensure the plan was successfully implemented. The client has since reported significant improvements in earnings and earnings
