C. Scott Wilson, Director

C. Scott Wilson is a director with ScottMadden, Inc. and has over 16 years of experience building business strategy and management consulting practices.  He has provided management counsel across multiple business disciplines, including strategic planning, competitive market development, operations, finance, marketing, sales, regulatory, and organizational design to more than 35 North American corporations.  Mr. Wilson founded NorthStar Concepts, Inc. in 1996 as an independent management consulting practice serving energy, utilities, telecommunication, media, and e-Business clients for ten years.  Prior to founding NorthStar, Mr. Wilson was a core member of the strategic planning practice at Scott, Madden & Associates for seven years and served in the U.S Army for four years.  In the Army, he attained the rank of Captain and received U.S. Army Achievement and Commendation medals while stationed with nuclear weapons and engineer units in Germany.  He received a B.S. degree in civil engineering from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  While a cadet at VMI, Mr. Wilson earned the Engineer in Training (EIT) certification and U.S. Army Airborne qualification.

  • Designed and implemented a corporate group "commercializing" intellectual property (IP) assets. Portfolio value of IP contracts after one year totaled $2.4 million. Facilitated IP negotiation teams and directly structured two contracts providing approximately $1.0 million in royalties, fixed fees, and equipment price discounts
  • Developed "need-based" C&I segment marketing/sales approaches and e-platform. Included regional economics/drivers, segment knowledge/plans, product/service offerings, earnings/profitability analysis (e.g., energy sales impacts, end-use/process load growth, etc.), sales/pricing "best practices", analytical tools, and links to related supporting web sites. Platform provided basis for deploying enterprise-wide web application
  • Facilitated "fit" assessment of emerging business models in energy markets for executive/senior management of combination energy utility. Results used to define future business, market, and organizational strategy
  • Assessed feasibility and developed business cases for deploying AMR and other control technologies in the energy and telecommunications markets. Developed strategic business, market, product, and infrastructure plans supporting deployment of AMR, energy information, energy management, and advanced communications services. Keynote speaker at AMR user group conference
  • Developed business and market development strategies for a distribution utility positioning itself as an "energy supply and distribution services integrator" between wholesale supply and retail energy markets
  • Developed e-Business product strategy/pricing model for technologies supporting the radio/media business
  • Completed "default provider/continuity of service" assessment and developed market scenarios supporting a combination energy utility's position in a state legislative/PUC directed energy market restructuring initiative
  • Developed "integrated" energy supply, delivery, and service offerings for C&I business segments
  • Assessed utility business impact/risk of large C&I retail choice including development of asset-based (generation plant) regional 8,760 hourly energy pricing models
