ScottMadden Releases Spring 2024 Edition of the Energy Industry Update “King for a Day”

ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading management consulting firms specializing in energy, has released its latest edition of the Energy Industry Update (EIU). Themed “King for a Day,” as in what we would change if only we were king for a day.. In this report, ScottMadden examines recent trends in the utility and energy industry that require major investment, time to implement, and a favorable regulatory and business environment.

In the report, we offer the latest on:

  • Clean Heat: While definitions of clean heat vary, it can be thought of as the intersection of decarbonization, electrification, and natural gas utility transformation. As clean heat regulatory proceedings continue, utilities and regulators must consider risks, opportunities, and customer interests (such as energy cost burden) that could result from any policy decisions.
  • Large Loads: Electricity peak demand and energy growth rates in North America are increasing at a pace not seen in decades. A common driver behind the dramatic increase is the rapid expansion of new and planned manufacturing facilities, data centers, and cryptocurrency mining. The rapid growth of large loads is prompting utilities to respond with a variety of actions.
  • Workforce Development: The Center for Energy Workforce Development’s recent Energy Workforce Report provides insights on specific challenges facing the energy sector. Concerns about an aging workforce have been replaced with a need to enhance the skills of a younger workforce. This shift will require careful management of workforce changes and a focus on programs to retrain and reskill displaced workers.
