Employee Spotlight: Morgan Schadegg

Employee Spotlight

Morgan Schadegg is a manager with ScottMadden and has been with the firm since 2019. She works across the firm’s energy practice area with specialization in generation. Morgan serves on the leadership team of the Generation CoP, is an active member of our other energy CoPs, and is a member of the U.S. Women in Nuclear Communications Committee. She holds an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University (SMU) and a B.S. in chemical engineering from Arizona State University (ASU).

Finding the Threads

Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Morgan’s childhood was shaped by frequent moves due to her father’s career in the nuclear industry. Their longest stint was in Kansas, where they initially settled near the nuclear plant in Burlington, and later moved to Lawerance, a livelier college town. This constant change fostered a sense of resilience in Morgan and provided her with early exposure to the energy sector. She found joy in unique experiences such as attending family-friendly nuclear conferences with her dad (fun fact – she just attended the same conference a few weeks ago that she used to go to as a kid!).

Despite the transition from one place to another, Morgan found a constant with her passion for athletics, particularly gymnastics. Inspired by the 1996 Olympics and Kerri Strug’s memorable performance, she pursued competitive gymnastics through the seventh grade with hopes of going pro. Beyond sports, Morgan also developed an early interest in fashion. She would often tag along with her mom to yard sales, always trying to find the best deals. Her interest in thrifting and fashion, combined with a formative job at Dairy Queen, sparked an entrepreneurial spirit in Morgan that would later grow during her college years.

Tailoring Success

After high school, Morgan used college as an opportunity to explore outside of her university-centered town; after a year at the University of Missouri she transferred to ASU to pursue chemical engineering. It was on her third day of classes at ASU that Morgan met her now-husband, Thomas, through mutual friends, and they have been inseparable ever since.

Between classes and studying, Morgan frequented a store called Nordstrom Last Chance where her passion for finding deals was reignited. She developed a deep interest in designer fashion, forged a lasting bond with many of the store’s regulars, and began to learn the art of reselling clothes on local sites. She and Thomas would even pool their money together to buy, resell, and fund exciting adventures, including trips to Las Vegas.

Following graduation, Morgan and Thomas moved to Texas to pursue her professional career at the nuclear power plant in Glen Rose. She quickly fell in love with the tight-knit community and the selfless colleagues and neighbors. After a few years, Morgan and Thomas decided to stay local and pursue M.B.A.s at SMU together, which set the stage for their next career moves. Morgan transitioned to a regulatory software and services company while pursuing her M.B.A. before both she and Thomas received job offers in their respective areas in Atlanta, prompting another move and most importantly her arrival at ScottMadden!

Living the Look

In Atlanta, Morgan and Thomas are currently renovating their 1969 home where they live with their three rescue cats, Coco, Karl, and Winston. Morgan and Thomas first got a taste for east coast home ownership during COVID when they purchased a rental A-frame cabin on Lake Hartwell that now has its own following on Instagram. Still an avid reseller, Morgan finds the time after work and while she’s out for errands to hunt for gems at local Goodwill stores. The key to good finds she says is “consistency and patience.”

Morgan also sits as a member of the U.S. Women in Nuclear Communications Committee. For the past three years, she has worked to secure mentors to provide key insights into what they wish they had known before entering the industry. Her efforts reflect a continued passion and love for the energy industry and a commitment to supporting professional growth.
